We have a beautiful nursery geared toward infants to 3 years. Plenty of toys, rocking chairs, and beds for napping. Large windows and speakers allow one to see and hear the service from the nursery.
Our Youth Sunday school program fluctuates according to the groups of children we have. We try to have two adults for our preschool class. Ideally, we would offer an additional young elementary class, an older elementary class, a tween class, and a high school class. The classes have a lesson that should correlate with the children’s sermon. The classes often support activities that are going on within the church. They man the collection for Souper bowl Caring and make cards for nursing homes or church members. They participate in special services such as Palm Sunday and provide a children’s program for Christmas. The older classes usually set up an Easter Egg hunt for the younger children. The children are a joy for the congregation!
At Hawker Church, women’s Bible studies are offered a few times a year, either on a book of the Bible or a theme of interest to the group. This year we have met over Zoom, but we hope to resume meeting in person sometime in 2021. All are welcome to participate as it helps us to keep in touch and stay connected while also learning something new and sharing our faith walk together.
The first Saturday of each month at 8:30 a.m. we hold a men’s monthly breakfast. All men of Hawker Church – and male neighbor’s, co-workers, and friends – are invited to breakfast and Bible study in our Fellowship Hall.
We’ll enjoy a homemade breakfast (trust us, it’s always great) and conversation. Then we’ll look at a story from the Bible and what it may be saying to our lives today.
If you would like to join the men’s breakfast, please email our church office (office@hawkerchurch.org) to ensure we have plenty of food.
Every Wednesday morning at 9:30am the group meets for a couple of hours for a time of fellowship and reflection. Come join us for coffee, tea or water along with something to satisfy the sweet tooth. There’s scripture considered, storytelling, debate and support as we share our lives with one another.
In the Gospel (“good news”) according to Matthew, we read that Jesus’ last words to His disciples, before He was lifted up into heaven, were: “…Make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age” Matthew 28:19 & 20.
The Sacrament of Baptism involves the application of water, either through sprinkling, pouring, or total immersion in water. Throughout the history of the Jewish people (and in many other religions for that matter), some sort of washing – either real or symbolic – has been common as a sign of being purified. In the first century A. D., John the Baptizer used baptism as a sign of apologizing for one’s sinfulness (i.e., separation from God, evidenced by committing wrongful acts and failing to do good) and choosing instead to live a new life of faithfulness to God. When we present ourselves or our children for baptism, we are acknowledging our sinful nature (Psalm 51:5) and our need for salvation which Jesus alone offers to us (John 14:6).
Baptism is not primarily about what we do (i.e., changing our lifestyle to be in harmony with God’s vision and purpose), but rather about what God does in adopting us as His children and dwelling in the midst of all our living.
We are pleased to offer the waters of Baptism to God’s children of all ages. Because it’s about claiming a covenantal relationship with Jesus and His Church, the ceremony is always held during a Sunday morning worship service. Please speak with the pastor if you are interested in learning more.
The Rite of Confirmation is where young adults (age 13 and up) and adults confirm that they have, indeed, recognized the Holy Spirit’s dwelling in their lives and in the life of the church, publicly proclaim their faith in Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and enter into the covenant of church membership. The ceremony is preceded by several months of classes, discussions, and service projects with the pastor and other church leaders. Contact the pastor to discuss when the next class will begin.
